I love races with a theme. Well I love races in general, but when they have a theme…..well there is just something extra fun when they have a theme. Just check out the hot chocolate bowl and awesome chocolate bar designed medal that we got. But here I will share with you guys how the race went.
How did the Hot Chocolate 15k go?
Honestly? Way better than I expected. I was sure that toward the end that I would putter out, but I didn’t. I didn’t feel completely drained until after we sat down after the race. In hindsight I should have fueled better, I usually eat oatmeal before my long runs on Sundays but this time Sarah and I ate the hotel breakfast. It was terrible and we both felt that we should have planned ahead. Next time though.
Our game plan?
We had decided early on going into this race to used the Galloway method and use a run/walk timer. We used low time intervals, while we build up to a longer run time. The plan for us is to increase it every week or two. That way it will allow a gradual increase in running time, without over exerting ourselves. And on the plus side with more run time, it will allow for a faster overall mile time.
I can’t wait and honestly I feel great about this plan.
Overall impression of the Hot Chocolate 15k in Houston.
It was fantastic and well organized, the atmosphere was fun and it is definitely a race I will plan to do next year. It started right in front of Houston City Hall, which was easy to get to and while of course we had to pay for parking it wasn’t outrageous. But otherwise the route wasn’t bad, it was pretty typical of Houston. Hills, pot holes and the friendliest cops (thank you, HPD) blocking the route were of course all included.
And for fun here is my not so great finish line photo, but of course I finished! My shirt says Just Do It and of course we did!
Be sure to see if there is a Hot Chocolate 5k/15k in your areal and be sure to check out more of our race logs.
